Description
Yes, there are FIVE in the picture. We normally sell these in sets of four, however when I was picking this latest group I found some little baby burr acorns out there and decided to throw one in with this group! You will receive the EXACT five Giant burr acorns that you see in the picture. The Burr Oak tree only produces acorns about every FOUR years. Perhaps that's because the acorns it produces are HUGE in comparison to all other acorns.
I have two of them that I gather from (when they're producing). In order to prepare these acorns properly, I roast them in the oven for a short time and then allow them to dry naturally for many months. The shell has to dry COMPLETELY before I can work on them the way I need to. NO TWO ever look exactly alike by the time I get done with them. The variation in colors that you see are ALL natural. I've not used ANY colors or dyes on them. This is just mother nature doing her thing!
I do take them apart and completely clean and buff the large nuts before trimming up the edges of the cup and then placing them back in. I glue them so that there will be NO movement. I then provide SEVERAL layers of clear coat. This ensures that they will never fade, chip, peel, mold etc. The finished product is just gorgeous. AND you can use them indoors OR out.
You will receive the EXACT Burr Acorns that you see in the picture. Please note that sometimes you will see a slight split, hole or flaw. These are thoroughly cleaned, and then sealed so they do NOT and will NEVER have a bug in them. It's just that it takes the acorns so long to fall that they will form slight flaws. I pick the best ones and then file any flaws down before cleaning and sealing them. Each were HAND picked, HAND inspected and HAND prepared by me.
Use them for bowl fillers, wreaths, accents, decorations, etc.
The biggest one is 2 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall. The next one is 1 5/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall. Next is 1 1/4" wide by 1 3/4" tall. Next one is 1 3/8" wide x 1 1/2" tall and the smallest one is 1 1/4" wide by 1 3/8" tall.
1 Large Sugar Pine cone for sale. Length will range from about 13" to 15" for some of the larger specimens. These are all harvested on private property in the Lake Tahoe area. Additionally I dry all of my cones in the oven to both set the pitch and to kill any bugs that may have inhabited the cones. Cones will each be different and unique but I only harvest newly fallen cones, not the old crop (snowed on) year old cones that turn gray. I also sort through thousands of cones to find undamaged and unique cones that have not been crushed by their fall as these cones are never taken off trees, only fallen cones on the forest floor are used.
If you have a special request don't hesitate to message me and ask, I get various messages ranging from customers looking for long stems, crooked cones, small cones etc.
Please check my other listing this year as well i am offering painted cones and JUMBO sized cones (limited).
Ebay/usps has upped my ship costs on these cones so I am passing the cost along. I try to keep my cone prices competitive for what you get and I package my cones with utmost care and diligence. (see my feedback)
Please be advised if you store or display these cones on your porch, Squirrels may in fact try to eat them as they do have pine seeds (nuts) inside them that critters find very tasty.
**** Pinecones are very flammable, never store near any source of open flame or direct heat.
Condition is New. Shipped with USPS First Class.
To my valued cone customers: Cones are back! The snow has melted and trees are beginning to drop as of June. Look forward to hearing from many of you again. Thank you all for the great feedback last year.
